Always Remember Me (work in progress)
September, 2004
First, I toned the canvas with a warm brownish-orange color, then used 12-inch grid lines to block in major elements based on my compositional sketch. This gives me enough direction to work from, while keeping things flexible. I don't like to commit myself to a sketch that's too rigid or detailed, since I know I might change my mind along the way.
The canvas is 6 x 4 feet, medium-heavy linen triple-primed with acrylic gesso and one layer of flake white. You can see the corner of my glass palette in the lower right.
