A series of paintings and drawings by Justin Kunz
based on Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain.

Introduction

Every child instinctively seeks a place where he can go to be alone and free, where his imagination can find space to grow. With a little direction, he may discover a special world of possibilities through an activity that nourishes the intellect.

Art has always been my window to a world where I could go and be anything I wanted to be. When I encountered the imaginary country of Prydain, I found another place where I could go and live for a time. In my mind, the two worlds seemed to intersect at many levels. Even then, I wanted to make pictures to accompany the stories, but found myself mired in the awkwardness of childhood. Now, though my skill has grown, I regret to find my imagination seems less potent than it once did. Nevertheless, as you participate in these images, I hope you experience a portion of the delight I have found in creating them.
