Contact the Artist

Since this site was originally launched in the fall of 1999 I have received email from people around the world who ask questions about my methods, techniques, and opinions on things art-related. Even though I sometimes do not know quite how to respond, I have often felt that other people might benefit by having access to these questions and my attempts to answer them.

The Kunz Art School originated out of this desire to share the things I am learning in the process of becoming an artist. It is certainly not meant to take the place of a thorough education in visual art, but might instead be viewed as one of many possible supplements.

Although it presently occupies only virtual space and not physical space, the Kunz Art School is a place for mutual learning and the exchange of knowledge in the disciplines of representational painting and drawing. It is a place where I can share some of my thoughts on art-related topics, for whatever benefit they may be, and pass along the valuable insights that others bring to me. It is called a school for simplicity, but I consider myself no more a teacher than a student.

The school is divided into two parts: the classroom and the forum.

classroom

The classroom is the place to find practical, concrete, take-home information about how to do better art. I will post answers to questions about my artistic process, methods, techniques, media preferences, and other applicable topics. As time permits I also plan to write occasional critiques on the work of a few students, so that others who may be struggling with common challenges may gain some new insights. Hopefully, other professional artists will also contribute articles, tutorials, or mutual links so that the guests of the Kunz Art School will be able to take home more perspectives than mine alone.

forum

The forum is a place for discussion of ideas, opinions, and thoughts about art-related topics. I will begin by posting a bibliography or reading list along with links to articles, web sites, and information on topics of interest to the student of art. I plan to publish a few of the things that I have written on art-related subjects and as many good articles as I can get permission to use. I welcome other artists and readers to submit their own articles and essays as well. Hopefully these things will spur the thoughts of readers and elicit responses that may result in some thoughtful dialogue.

Please check back in the coming months for further developments at the Kunz Art School. We invite you to submit feedback, questions, requests, and suggestions for this section here.
